C&H Smelter

Hubbell – Only the richest copper mines could afford their own smelter and C&H’s economic prowess enabled its erection of the region’s largest. Today only a handful of the sites original compliment of buildings remain, including the electrolytic plant and mineral house.

Michigan Smelter

Houghton – Now reduced to a collection of ruins scattered along a steep hillside adjacent Coles Creek, this sprawling site was once home to one of the region’s largest smelting operations.

Quincy Smelter

Ripley – This sprawling 25 acre complex refined and purified the copper arriving from Quicny’s mills, before casting it into ingots for shipment across the country.
