This interesting old church sits alone and abandoned near the Quincy Mine, in what use to be a small community of worker housing known as Limerick. Its hodgepodge collection of field stone, sandstone, and brick looks almost folksy – as if the building was built by hand by a local miner or farmer. Though its wood spire and cross definitely identifies this structure’s most recent occupation as church, its odd style and structure makes me think it was originally something more secular in nature (maybe a barn?).

Either way its an interesting structure, and deserving of a spotlight here at CCE. Even if I know very little about it or its origins. Perhaps that where the rest of you come in….

Where is the church located in Limerick?

This church is about two blocks up from the highway, just past the water tower and to the right. It’s technically in old Pewabic Location.

I came across this old church on Craigslist. It’s for sale, along with the old rectory:

There you go, adam :)

I think I want both – the Limerick church and the one on Craigslist. Guess I’d better buy my lottery ticket!

I think the Craigslist entry is for the Limerick Church and Rectory. The tower and spire posted here certainly look the same as the top right photo on Craigslist, and it looks like the roofline of the rectory (seen behind the church in both photos) is the same.
